BC Wildfires

Northern British Columbia has been experiencing wildfires for the past month. We are monitoring the situation closely as the safety of our guests and team is our top priority.

Due to a wildfire in the Cariboo area, the railway near Quesnel has been closed. Should the closure continue, it will impact upcoming train departures on the Rainforest to Gold Rush route on our Grand Rockies Circle Tour, which travels between Vancouver and Jasper via Whistler and Quesnel.

The following upcoming departure may be affected:
  • August 18 - Grand Rockies Circle Tour. There is a possibility, should closures still exist that guests on this tour will be partially rerouted on Day Three but will still get an opportunity to travel aboard the train for most of the journey. The area around Quesnel may be avoided and some travel will be by motorcoach on the second half of Day Three if this is the case.
The trains travelling via Kamloops between Vancouver and Banff and between Vancouver and Jasper via Kamloops are not presently affected by the wildfires.

The wildfire situation in BC is becoming more stable and we continue to monitor it closely to determine if it will affect other departures. Should there be any further impact on upcoming journeys, we will provide an update here.

Fire crews have been doing an exceptional job to evacuate the towns and cities affected. Except for our Grand Rockies Circle tours, all trains and buses are all still running and the majority of the route is not affected. Rest assured, we are monitoring this on a daily basis. As a guest of ours, it is in our best interest to show you the best Canada has to offer.

While you may be worried about your tour being affected, we also want you to please give thoughts to the people who live in the towns that are affected and have been evacuated. Some people have lost their homes and all of their belongings. Our thoughts also go out to the brave firefighters and their families who are affected by this. There are fire crews from other provinces working day and night to keep all of us safe. Should you wish to support the wildfire relief efforts, the Canadian Red Cross has made an appeal to assist those affected by the wildfires. Donations can be made online at www.redcross.ca.

We will continue to monitor this situation closely and keep our clients informed. If you do see some of the firefighters while on your tour, please say thanks from us for all that they are doing.

Best regards,

Your Canada Rail Vacations Team
