Itinerary

Day 1 Vancouver Arrival

Upon your arrival in Vancouver, independently enjoy the day exploring any of Vancouver’s excellent attractions: such as Stanley Park, or the Vancouver Art Gallery.  Enjoy strolling along the downtown beaches which overlook the harbour and Coast Mountains, or take the opportunity to do some unique shopping on Granville Island.  Accommodation in Vancouver is included with your tour package.

Day 2 Vancouver Sightseeing, VIA Rail Departure

Use your sightseeing bus pass to explore Vancouver at your leisure. Travel through Vancouver’s past, present and future as you visit historic Gastown, colourful Chinatown and the lively entertainment district. Discover the beauty of 1000-acre Stanley Park and English Bay as well as the bustle of Robson Street in the heart of the shopping district.

At 8:30pm, depart Vancouver onboard the VIA Rail 'Canadian' train. You will travel through the lush Fraser Valley, British Columbia’s agricultural heartland, and along the meandering salmon-rich Fraser River.  The train travels through scenic river canyons carved into the Coast and Cascade Mountains and goes past unique historical attractions such as the thundering waters of Hell’s Gate.  As night falls, your train passes through the dry interior of British Columbia. Snuggle in for the night in your private-bedroom accommodation with the soothing rhythmic sounds of the train rocking you to sleep.

Day 3 Jasper

Wake up for breakfast onboard the train and witness sunrise in the British Columbia Rockies, truly a sublime experience. Pass by the 3954 metre south-face of Mt. Robson on your way to a 4:00pm arrival in Jasper. After check-in at your Jasper hotel, venture out to see the Jasper area from the vantage point reached by the tramway above town.

Day 4 Jasper Sightseeing

Embark on a five-hour tour of one of the most spectacular areas of Jasper National Park. The first stop is at Maligne Canyon where 10,000 years of erosion have created a 49-meter deep gorge. Set off on a short walk to marvel at the Maligne River as it thunders through the canyon in a series of waterfalls. From the canyon continue to the “mysteriously” disappearing Medicine Lake and then to Maligne Lake for a 90-minute interpretative boat cruise bound for the world-renowned Spirit Island; bring your camera, as this truly is a picture postcard setting. After the boat cruise, we relax and soak up the sights or enjoy a tasty treat at the Lake Chalet. Alternatively, those who would prefer to go for a walk rather than take the cruise can enjoy a guided 75-minute walk along the shoreline trail of Maligne Lake.  Please note that the lake is usually not free of ice until the end of May, so another Jasper tour is substituted for earlier departures.

Enjoy the rest of your day in Jasper then overnight.

Day 5 Jasper

This is your free day to explore Jasper and area. You may wish to enjoy your day by going for a hike, an animal watching tour or a day tour to the Columbia Icefield. We're more than happy to help you plan your day to make the best of it. Please let us know if you'd like some great recommendations such as the Jasper Tour Company's wildlife tour.

Day 6 Jasper to Quesnel

Board the Rocky Mountaineer train the morning. After leaving Jasper National Park, view the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies, Mount Robson, at 3,954 metres (12,972 feet). Turn northwest up through the Rocky Mountain Trench, a enjoy stunning views through the wide agricultural Robson Valley, cradled between the Cariboo and Rocky Mountains. Continue along the Fraser River, tracing its sinuous course down to the ocean, marvelling at the 1600km salmon migration each summer.   The train will pass through densely forested rolling hills to the city of Prince George, known as BC's northern capital, before heading south to stay the historic rural town of Quesnel for the night.

Day 7 Quesnel to Whistler

The scenery is enchanting as the train passes through this sparsely populated, remote region.  The train winds through the ranch lands and deep river canyons of the Cariboo Plateau.  The crossing of Deep Creek Bridge is a spectacular event, as it is one of the highest railway bridges in the world.  Look for the ginseng plantations on the dry hilltops above Lillooet.  Train passengers can almost touch the crystal clear waters of Anderson and Seton Lakes, as the train meanders past.  The train then returns to the lush Coast Mountains, through the fertile Pemberton Valley, with the spectacular Mount Currie looming overhead.  Disembark from the train in the exciting resort town of Whistler for the night, co-host of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, renowned for its fine dining opportunities and vibrant nightlife. You have a pass for the Whistler Mountain & Peak to Peak Gondola, use it to access the spectular views, walking and dining in the alpine.

Day 8 Whistler to Vancouver

Spend the morning enjoying the unique energy of Whistler Village, as you stroll though the pedestrian only cobblestone streets.  Your final train journey leaves for Vancouver, travelling along the “Sea to Sky” corridor.  Unlike motor vehicles, the train can enter the amazing Cheakamus Canyon.  Fabulous scenic points of interest include the prominent granite monolith known as “The Chief,” the spectacular Shannon Falls, and sparkling waters of the Howe Sound fjord.  A light meal is served aboard the Rocky Mountaineer prior to arrival in North Vancouver.  Transfer to your hotel in downtown Vancouver is provided.

Day 9 Vancouver Departure

Your vacation concludes after morning checkout from your Vancouver hotel.
