Itinerary

Day 1 Calgary to Banff

Upon arrival at the Calgary International Airport, meet your scenic motorcoach transfer to Banff, in the heart of stunning Banff National Park. After checking into your hotel, the rest of the day is yours to explore this charming mountain town.

Day 2 Banff

Take a 4.5 hour guided bus tour surrounded by the mountains of Mt Rundle, Tunnel Mountain, Cascade Mountain and Mt. Norquay. Your driver/ guide will talk about the local natural attractions such as the wind-shaped Hoodoos. Enjoy the scenery at Surprise Corner along Tunnel Mountain Drive! Experience a gentle ride to the summit of Sulphur Mountain in a four-person fully enclosed gondola. A spectacular view and picture taking opportunity wait at the top of this 360 degree panorama of the Bow Valley. Learn all about how these majestic mountains have shaped this unique community. Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring Banff on your own. You may enjoy walking on the local trails, playing golf at The Fairmont Banff Springs golf course, or having extra leisure time in your hotel.

Day 3 Banff to Kamloops

The rail portion of your Canadian vacation will begin aboard the Rocky Mountaineer train. After being transported by coach to the Banff station, you’ll journey into the Canadian Rockies. The Rocky Mountaineer’s dome cars will provide you with uncompromising views of snow-packed peaks, tumbling mountain streams and earth-carving glaciers. After crossing the Continental Divide, you’ll enter British Columbia. The Spiral Tunnels, Rogers Pass and Glacier National Park (12 percent of it is solid ice), all noted landmarks, will add to the awe of your journey. The glacier-clad mountains give way the arid grassland hills of the Kamloops region. Overnight in Kamloops.

Day 4 Kamloops to Vancouver

Your Rocky Mountaineer train will continue west before turning south into the Fraser River Valley. With the return of the mountains, the landscape again changes dramatically. The Canadian Cascade Mountains combine with thick fir forests and the charging Fraser River to create a spectacular setting. Along the way you’ll pass Hell’s Gate, a narrow canyon with sheer, towering walls that transforms the Fraser River into a froth of surging rapids. Upon reaching Vancouver in the early evening, you can end your day with a relaxing evening enjoying the city’s west coast charm.

Day 5 Vancouver

Independently enjoy the day exploring any of Vancouver’s excellent attractions. Included in your travel package is your “Hop-on Hop-off” bus pass to tour Vancouver at your own pace. Your tour bus pass accesses the city’s most popular attractions including Gastown, Chinatown, Granville Island, Stanley Park and the Robson Street Shopping District. Enjoy strolling along the downtown beaches which overlook the harbour and Coast Mountains, or take the opportunity to do some shopping on Granville Island.

Day 6 Victoria

Today you’ll board a ferry for a tour of Victoria, located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, is annually recognized as one of the world’s prettiest cities. Your guided tour will take you to all of Victoria’s hotspots, with plenty of attention devoted to the Inner Harbour area. Admission to Butchart Gardens, one of western Canada’s most popular attractions, highlights the day. Enjoy the sunset over the ocean as you transfer back to Vancouver.

Day 7 Whistler

Today enjoy a full day tour by bus along the beautiful Sea to Sky Corridor to the exciting resort town of Whistler, co-host of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Spend the afternoon enjoying the energy of Whistler Village, as you stroll through the pedestrian-only cobblestone streets and take in the spectacular views and world famous dining.

Day 8 Vancouver to Kamloops

Depart Vancouver onboard the Rocky Mountaineer train and travel from the coast to central British Columbia. En route, enjoy passing through British Columbia’s agricultural heartland, the Fraser Valley. This historic valley is covered by lush green mountainsides, with the salmon rich Fraser River winding through. The train travels through scenic river canyons carved into the Coast and Cascade Mountains, passing unique geographical attractions, such as the thundering waters of Hell’s Gate. The environment will gradually change, as the train rises onto the arid environment of the interior plateau, stopping for the night in the city of Kamloops.  Breakfast and lunch are included aboard the train.

Day 9 Kamloops to Jasper

In the morning, the train departs Kamloops, travelling along the shore of North Thompson River, through charming rural communities, up into the Rocky Mountain trench. Geological changes are evident as the train travels through two higher and dramatic ranges, the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains. Along route, observe the gorgeous peak, Mount Terry Fox, named after the legendary fundraiser, Terry Fox, who attempted to run across Canada with his prosthetic leg before losing his life to Cancer. Next, examine the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies, Mount Robson, at 3,954 metres (12,972 feet). Pass by the stunning Moose Lake and the picturesque Pyramid Falls before arriving and staying overnight in the cosy resort town of Jasper, in Jasper National Park. Breakfast and lunch are included on the train. Overnight in Jasper.

Day 10 Jasper

Embark on a five-hour tour of one of the most spectacular areas of Jasper National Park. The first stop is at Maligne Canyon where 10,000 years of erosion have created a 49-meter deep gorge. Set off on a short walk to marvel at the Maligne River as it thunders through the canyon in a series of waterfalls. From the canyon continue to the “mysteriously” disappearing Medicine Lake and then to Maligne Lake for a 90-minute interpretative boat cruise bound for the world-renowned Spirit Island; bring your camera, as this truly is a picture postcard setting. After the boat cruise, we relax and soak up the sights or enjoy a tasty treat at the Lake Chalet. Alternatively, those who would prefer to go for a walk rather than take the cruise can enjoy a guided 75-minute walk along the shoreline trail of Maligne Lake. Please note that the lake is usually not free of ice until the end of May, so another Jasper tour is substituted for earlier departures.

Day 11 Jasper to Lake Louise

Aboard a bus, travel southeast down the Icefields Parkway, renowned as the most beautiful highway in Canada. Glaciated peaks tower breathtakingly along the roadside. The bus will stop to view Athabasca Falls. Then, upon arrival of the Athabasca Glacier, board the Ice Explorer, a specialized bus that travels directly onto the glacier, while a qualified guide explains the geology of the region. The bus will also stop for photo opportunities at the pristine Bow Lake, prior to arriving at the majestic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise for the night.

Day 12 Lake Louise to Calgary

Take the morning to explore Lake Louise and visit the Lake Louise Sightseeing Lift with your included lift passes. Later, meet your motorcoach transfer from Lake Louise to your Calgary hotel.

Day 13 Calgary

Your vacation concludes with check out from your Calgary hotel
