Itinerary

Day 1 Vancouver Arrival

Upon your arrival in Vancouver, independently enjoy the day exploring any of Vancouver’s excellent attractions: such as Stanley Park, or the Vancouver Art Gallery. Enjoy strolling along the downtown beaches which overlook the harbour and Coast Mountains, or take the opportunity to do some unique shopping on Granville Island. Accommodation in Vancouver is included with your tour package.

Day 2 Vancouver Sightseeing, VIA Rail Departure

Use your sightseeing bus pass to explore Vancouver in the morning. Travel through Vancouver’s past, present and future as you visit historic Gastown, colourful Chinatown and the lively entertainment district. Discover the beauty of 1000-acre Stanley Park and English Bay as well as the bustle of Robson Street in the heart of the shopping district. Continue to the prestigious Olde Shaughnessy residential mansions area and Granville Island.

At noon, depart Vancouver on board the VIA Rail 'Canadian' train. You'll travel through the lush Fraser Valley, British Columbia’s agricultural heartland, and along the meandering salmon-rich Fraser River. The train travels through scenic river canyons carved into the Coast and Cascade Mountains and goes past unique historical attractions such as the thundering waters of Hell’s Gate. As night falls, your train passes through the dry interior of British Columbia. Snuggle in for the night in your private-bedroom accommodation with the soothing rhythmic sounds of the train rocking you to sleep.

Day 3 Arrival in Jasper

Wake up for breakfast onboard the train and witness sunrise in the British Columbia Rockies, truly a sublime experience. Pass by the 8000ft south-face of Mt. Robson on your way to a morning arrival in Jasper. We've included the Jasper Skytram admission and shuttle to use before checking in to your hotel.

Day 4 Jasper sightseeing

Embark on a five-hour tour of one of the most spectacular areas of Jasper National Park. The first stop is at Maligne Canyon where 10,000 years of erosion have created a 49-meter deep gorge. Set off on a short walk to marvel at the Maligne River as it thunders through the canyon in a series of waterfalls. From the canyon continue to the “mysteriously” disappearing Medicine Lake and then to Maligne Lake. Hike, explore or relax and soak up the sights or enjoy a tasty treat at the Lake Chalet.

Enjoy the rest of your day in Jasper then overnight.

Day 5 Jasper to Banff

Travel southeast by motorcoach down the Columbia Icefields Parkway, renowned as the most beautiful highway in Canada. Glaciated peaks tower breathtakingly along the roadside. The bus will stop to view Athabasca Falls. Then, upon arrival of the Athabasca Glacier, board the Ice Explorer, a specialized bus that travels directly to the ice, while a qualified guide explains the geology of the region. Lunch is not included, however, there will be opportunity to eat in the café. The bus will also stop for photo opportunities at pristine Bow Lake and Lake Louise, prior to arriving at in Banff for the night.

Day 4 Banff Sightseeing

Take a 4.5 hour guided bus tour (with pickup at 8:00am) through the towering mountains of Rundle, Tunnel, Cascade, and Norquay and learn about the natural attractions of the wind-shaped hoodoos. Be aware of the Surprise Corner along Tunnel Mountain Drive! Experience a gentle ride to the summit of Sulphur Mountain taking 8 minutes in a four-person fully enclosed gondola. A spectacular view and picture taking opportunity wait at the top of this 360 degree panorama of the Bow Valley. Learn all about how these majestic mountains have shaped this unique community. Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring Banff on your own. You may enjoy walking on the local trails, playing golf at The Fairmont Banff Springs, or having extra leisure time in your hotel.

Day 7 Banff to Kamloops

Board the Rocky Mountaineer train, and admire the phenomenal snow topped Rocky Mountains looming overhead. Observe the rivers as they change their direction of flow as the train passes over the Continental Divide. Travel through the Spiral Tunnels and Kicking Horse canyon, over Rogers Pass, and past Craigellachie, the historic site where the final spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was placed. Finally, view a dramatic change of scenery, as the train approaches the ranchlands of interior plateau. The train will stop for the night in the city of Kamloops, and you will be transferred to your hotel. Breakfast and lunch are included aboard the train.

Day 8 Kamloops to Vancouver

Depart from central British Columbia to the coastal city of Vancouver. The environment will gradually change, as the train leaves the arid environment of the interior plateau. The train travels through scenic river canyons carved into the Coast and Cascade Mountains, passing unique geographical attractions, such as the thundering waters of Hell’s Gate and the towering granite mountains near the city of Hope. Enjoy passing through British Columbia’s agricultural heartland, the historic Fraser Valley; a memorable site, bordered by lush, vegetated mountainsides, with the salmon rich Fraser River winding through. Spend the night in a downtown Vancouver hotel. Breakfast and lunch are included aboard the train.
