Daily Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Calgary, Self Drive to Canmore

Your rental car will be ready upon arrival into Calgary. This 1.5 hour drive will take you from the plains of Calgary to the beautiful town of Canmore and just footsteps away from the rock sheer face of the Canadian Rockies. Should you wish for a quick detour, Kananaskis Country would be a great option.

The rest of the day is yours to explore Canmore at your leisure. Short and leisure hikes are available at your doorstep, as well as bike paths and even lakes; should you wish to rent a paddleboard or go for a swim. Spend the next three nights in your Canmore hotel room.

Day 2 - Free day to explore Banff National Park

Today you’ll have a full day to explore Banff National Park. If you’re a real go getter, we would suggest an early sunrise at Canada’s Postcard; Moraine Lake. Avoiding the large day crowds at Lake Louise and Moraine Lake would also be beneficial and a time saver. Canoe rentals are also available at Lake Louise and Moraine Lake. Spend the afternoon visiting the surrounding area such as Castle Mountain, Johnston Canyon, Lake Minnewanka and Two Jack Lake.

Day 3 - Free day to explore Banff National Park

After an exciting and action-packed day in Banff and Lake Louise, spend today in a bit more relaxed state. Take a scenic drive to the town of Banff. Walk up and down the world-famous Banff Avenue and explore the local shops and restaurants.

Another great option would be the Banff Gondola ride up to the top of Sulphur Mountain for fantastic views, interpretive boardwalks and photo opportunities.

Day 4 - Rocky Mountaineer train from Banff to Kamloops

Raise your glass to celebrate your first day on board the Rocky Mountaineer! After leaving Lake Louise, you’ll soon cross over into British Columbia and begin winding through the Rockies.

Enjoy fresh meals as you pass by sights such as Yoho National Park, the Spiral Tunnels and Rodgers Pass. The landscape will change dramatically as you leave the mountains and approach the city of Kamloops, where you will spend the night in your hotel room.

Day 5 - Rocky Mountaineer Train from Kamloops to Vancouver

The mountains return and combine with thick fir forests and the mighty Fraser River to create a spectacular setting for your last day aboard the Rocky Mountaineer. Today, one of the highlights will be passing by Hell’s Gate, a narrow canyon that transforms the Fraser River into a powerful surge of water rapids.

Arrive in Vancouver in the late afternoon and after checking into your hotel, take advantage of your “Hop On, Hop Off” bus pass to explore the city at your own pace. Overnight in your downtown Vancouver hotel room.
