Daily Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Calgary, self transfer to Canmore

After arriving at the Calgary International Airport and picking up your rental car, you will have the rest of the day to explore! Combining western charm with urban amenities, Calgary is home to many unique spots. Before leaving for Canmore, spend the day strolling through Prince’s Island Park and along the Bow River, get a great view of the city from the Calgary Tower or check out one of the many trendy neighborhoods such as Kensington or Inglewood.

The1.5 hour drive to Canmore will take you from the plains of Calgary to the beautiful town of Canmore and just footsteps away from the rock sheer face of the Canadian Rockies. Should you wish for a quick detour, Kananaskis Country would be a great option.

The rest of the day is yours to explore Canmore at your leisure. Short and leisure hikes are available at your doorstep, as well as bike paths and even lakes; should you wish to rent a paddleboard or go for a swim. Spend the night in your Canmore hotel room.

Day 2 - Free day to explore Banff National Park

Today you’ll have a full day to explore Banff National Park. If you’re a real go getter, we would suggest an early sunrise at Canada’s Postcard; Moraine Lake. Avoiding the large day crowds at Lake Louise and Moraine Lake would also be beneficial and a time saver. Canoe rentals are also available at both lakes. Spend the afternoon visiting the surrounding area such as Castle Mountain, Johnston Canyon, Lake Minnewanka and Two Jack Lake. Check into your Banff Hotel for the next two nights.

Day 3 - Free day to explore Banff National Park

After an exciting and action-packed day in Banff and Lake Louise, spend today in a bit more relaxed state. Take a scenic drive to the town of Banff. Walk up and down the world-famous Banff Avenue and explore the local shops and restaurants.

Another great option would be the Banff Gondola ride up to the top of Sulphur Mountain for fantastic views, interpretive boardwalks and photo opportunities.

Day 4 - Self drive the Icefields Parkway to Jasper

Today you’re driving along the most beautiful highway in Canadian Rockies—the Icefields Parkway. Recommended stops are Crowfoot Glacier, Bow Lake, Peyto Lake, The Columbia Icefield and the powerful Athabasca Falls. Please note, there’s no cell phone reception along the parkway, as well as gas stations and limited restaurants. We recommend a big breakfast prior to your departure and to bring snacks for trip up to Jasper. Although it’s a 3.5 hour direct drive, the many stops will make it a much longer journey.

Day 5 - Free day to explore Jasper National Park

Spend the day getting to know Jasper! Explore the surrounding area such as Maligne Canyon, where 10,000 years of erosion have created the deepest canyon in the Rockies. Start off with a short and easy walk, admiring the Maligne River and its many waterfalls. After that, we suggest Medicine Lake, followed by the fairy tale-like Maligne Lake.

Day 6 - Free day to explore Jasper National Park

Today we have a few suggestions for you. Miette Hotsprings is always recommended during your stay in Jasper. Explore the interpretive trail around a historic mine site and visit the original pools down at the source of the springs along Sulphur Creek. If you’re feeling up for a more challenging adventure, hike the popular Sulphur Skyline trail and be rewarded with some truly spectacular views.

When you’re ready to relax, choose between four different temperature pools to soak in located amongst tranquil towering peaks and free roaming wildlife. In the afternoon, we suggest visiting the Jasper Skytram. The Jasper Skytram is the longest and highest aerial tramway in Canada and the only aerial
ropeway in the Canadian Rockies providing visitors with unprecedented views of six mountain ranges, glacial fed lakes, the Athabasca River, and the scenic mountain town-site of Jasper.

Day 8 - Rocky Mountaineer Train from Jasper to Kamloops

Raise your glass to your first day aboard the Rocky Mountaineer! Mount Robson—the highest mountain in the region—will greet you as you begin your train journey.

Dine on locally-sourced meals and enjoy complimentary drinks as you head west through the Canadian Rockies with snow-covered peaks and mountain streams keeping you company along the way. You’ll eventually begin your descent out of the mountains to spend the night in your Kamloops hotel room.

Day 9 - Rocky Mountaineer Train from Kamloops to Vancouver

The mountains return and combine with thick fir forests and the mighty Fraser River to create a spectacular setting for your last day aboard the Rocky Mountaineer. Today, one of the highlights will be passing by Hell’s Gate, a narrow canyon that transforms the Fraser River into a powerful surge of water rapids.

Arrive in Vancouver in the late afternoon and after checking into your hotel, take advantage of your “Hop On, Hop Off” bus pass to explore the city at your own pace. Overnight in your downtown Vancouver hotel room.
